Is dry ice safe and how do I dispose of the packaging?

Our Home Delivery uses dry ice in insulated boxes to maintain the temperature of the ice cream.

The dry ice will arrive in a sealed, labelled envelope. Please do not open the contents and touch it directly with your hands as it can cause freezer burn. Once you have unboxed your delivery, leave the dry ice envelope in a well-ventilated space for 24 hours to allow the dry ice to fully evaporate. Keep away from children and pets. Do not inhale the vapours given off by the dry ice. When it has all evaporate , you will be left with a wrapper which can be dispose of in normal waste.

How to dispose of Home Delivery packaging:

Cardboard Box: This is 100% recyclable and can be recycled at home in your card recycling.

Insulation Liners: We use compacted shredded paper which is 100% biodegradable and can be disposed of with your general waste.

Dry Ice Barrier Bag: Once the dry ice has evaporated, separate the bubble from the paper envelope, and recycle as normal. Ensure all of the dry ice has evaporated prior to separating the packaging.

Ice Cream Tubs: The cardboard lids and bases can be recycled in your at home in your card recycling

PLA Spoons: These are made from plant material and are biodegradable. They should be placed with your plastic recycling.

What temperature should ice cream be stored at?

For long-term storage we recommend you store ice cream at -18C or below. Dolcetti Gelato has a higher fat content than many store bought ice cream and so will be harder and will need time to soften out of the freezer before being served. If you are scooping the ice cream from a display cabinet you may wish to run your freezer very slightly warmer to make it easier to scoop – many run their freezers at -16C in these situations.

Do your products contain Palm Oil?

We do not use palm oil as an ingredient in any of our recipes and try to ensure that anything we buy in does not include palm oil. If it is unavoidable, we choose those products that are certified to be using palm oil from sustainable sources.

Do your products contain nuts?

We do not make any gelato with peanuts, however we do use some tree nuts, e.g Pistachio and Pecans, in some of our products. After these products are made, the production area and all machines are sterilised to avoid allergen cross contamination.

Do you make vegan ice cream?

Yes, our Plant Based ice creams and sorbets are made to a vegan recipe.

Refer to our product labels to view recipe ingredients and allergy information.

Are your products organic?

Our ice cream is not organic but care is taken at the dairy farm to follow high animal welfare standards, and the farm has Red Tractor Accreditation.

The dairy farm follows Regenerative Farming techniques where the environmental impact and animal welfare are focused on to ensure exceptional quality milk production. Our dairy farmer and his family use modern technology to ensure that animal welfare is of the highest standard. Individual animal health is monitored 24/7 using computerised monitors attached to each cow. Crop and grazing rotation ensures that the quality of the soil is maintained. Slurry from the herd is sprayed back onto the fields to reduce the reliance on chemical fertilisers which have a negative impact on biodiversity amongst the insect and micro-organisms found in the fields and soil.

Gruffles Dog Ice Cream

If you are selling Gruffles in a Retail outlet we recommend Gruffles is stored in a separate freezer from human ice cream to prevent mistaken purchases.

Gruffles is made with natural ingredients, is lactose free, low in sugar and low in fat.

The Beef flavour is made using Beef Bone Broth and the Chicken using Chicken stock.

Both of these ingredients are certified to be fit for human consumption, but is advised that the final Gruffles range is not consumed by humans.

Are your hygiene standards regularly audited?

Dolcetti has SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Audit) Accreditation and STS Food Safety Accreditation.

The factory has a 5 Star Hygiene rating, is regularly audited by Trading Standards and APHA (Animal & Plant Health Agency) relating to the production of Gruffles.

The production facilities are reviewed on a regular basis to maintain site hygiene and reduce the risk of product contamination from storage of raw materials, to production and packing of finished product. There is clear separation of raw materials and finished goods within both the factory and storage areas.
